A Review of the D Series from River Pools
Inground pools are a very unique product. Not only are there multiple types like concrete, vinyl liners, and fiberglass pools, but there are hundreds of designs to choose from. If you’re in the market for an inground pool, maybe you’re interested in fiberglass pools. If you’ve read anything about fiberglass pools, perhaps you’re familiar with River Pools, whose Del Sol, or D Series of fiberglass pools is the subject of this review.
At Royal Pools and G2 Outdoor Designs, we have been installing fiberglass and vinyl liner pools for over 24 years. We’ve seen some of the coolest backyard designs and pool shapes you can imagine. The D Series from River Pools is a versatile pool design that can serve many different functions for adults and kids alike. In this review, we’re going to talk about some of the features and functionality of the D Series pools to give you an honest assessment of the pool from the eyes of an actual pool builder. Let’s get into it.
Size Options
With the Del Sol being a series, you can get this pool in multiple different sizes, which is a major draw for any fiberglass pool. Fiberglass has often been criticized for not being customizable, which is true. Your only options for fiberglass are what the manufacturer offers. When they offer a design in multiple sizes like River did here, it’s a benefit to anyone interested in the pool. The size options for the D Series are:
-
D24
-
12’ x 24’
- Depth of 4’ to 5’3”
- Holds 7,500 gallons of water
-
-
D28
-
15’ x 28’
- Depth of 4’1” to 5’6”
- Holds 8,000 gallons of water
-
-
D32
-
15’ x 32’
- Depth of 4’1” to 6’
- Holds 10,000 gallons of water
-
-
D36
-
16’ x 36’
- Depth of 4’2” to 6’2”
- Holds 13,900 gallons of water
-
-
D40
-
16’ x 40’
- Depth of 4’2” to 6’6”
- Holds 17,800 gallons of water

Features and Functionality
In terms of function, a D Series can work in just about any scenario. The wide open tanning ledge and shallow end make for great loung areas for socializing and light swimming. The size optionality with the D Series means you can get a small, social pool, or a 40 foot long spacious swimming pool. It’s all about what you want.
The rectangular shape and wavy steps and tanning ledge give the D Series a very modern, sleek look that a lot of young homeowners will love. Being a rectangle, it is very easy to install an automatic cover over this pool, which will save you loads of money that you would spend on chemicals.
Not many fiberglass pools have spacious deep-ends. The River Pools T40 has an 8 foot deep-end, but the D Series does not. The size options give you lots to choose from in terms of depth, just not enough to put a diving board on in this case. What are some of the overall pros and cons of the D Series? Let’s break it down.
Pros
- Size and color optionality
- Ample swim space
- Spacious tanning ledge
- Deep end benches
- Non-skid floors and steps
- Automatic cover compatible
- Ease of maintenance with fiberglass pools
Cons
- Higher cost inherent to fiberglass pools
- Small deep-end
The D Series from River Pools is arguably their most complete and reliable line of fiberglass pools. The design itself is a beautiful one that lends itself to multiple purposes and functions, not including the multiple size options that come with this line. We give the D Series an A. The only thing that would get this to an A+ for us would be an 8-foot deep-end on the D40. Maybe one day we’ll see that. For more fiberglass pool reviews, check out the articles below.
