What Is E-Z Pool: Does It Work in Northwest Indiana?

If you’re familiar with inground pools or residential swimming, you probably know all about pool water chemistry. If you’re a new pool owner or thinking about purchasing a pool and are terrified at the prospect of chemistry, you’re probably looking for a way to avoid the hassle of adding chemicals every week.

For many pool owners, maintaining clean, swimmable, and balanced water can feel like a full-time job at times. Between weekly testing and chemical adjustments, it’s easy to see why many pool owners look for a “one-step solution” for pool care. The truth is, there is no true “all-in-one” balancer/sanitizer solution. But there is one fantastic pool blend system that replaces most of the chemicals you need to add to your pool. What is it?

E-Z Pool is a once-a-week scoop you put in your pool that locks chemistry in place. Essentially, it is a weekly pool care treatment that makes balancing your pool, you guessed it, easy!

Royal Pools G2 Landscaping has sold E-Z Pool for years, and we encourage our customers to try it out. Customers love E-Z Pool so much that yours truly had to try it out on my own pool two years ago. I have loved it ever since. So what is E-Z Pool? Does it really work in Northwest Indiana? Let’s dive in.

What Is E-Z Pool?

E-Z Pool is a patented pool water care program designed for simplicity and enhanced water quality. It’s in the name, folks. E-Z Pool reduces the amount of chemicals you need every week by locking your chemistry in place, eliminating the need to purchase balancers like pH up and down, alkalinity up, and calcium hardness.

Additionally, instead of purchasing algaecides, clarifiers, scale inhibitors, and oxidizers, E-Z Pool’s specialized blend includes all of these products. The E-Z Pool blend is copper-based, meaning it has a built-in algaecide. The product is designed to work in above ground and inground pools alike, regardless of whether it’s a concrete, vinyl liner, or fiberglass pool.

To start E-Z Pool, you must balance your pool water chemistry and then raise your calcium hardness levels above 350 PPM. Calcium is essentially the motor for E-Z Pool, meaning the higher the calcium levels in the water, the better E-Z Pool will work. After the water is balanced, choose your “E-Z Pool Day” of the week, and add it on that same day of every week until you close your pool.

What Does E-Z Pool Do?

E-Z Pool does a lot of things. In addition to maintaining your balancers (pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness) in the proper range, E-Z Pool also:

  • Prevents algae bloom
  • Keeps the water crystal clear
  • Stops scale buildup on the pool walls
  • Enhances the water feel for maximum comfort

Here’s what E-Z Pool doesn’t do: sanitize the water. Meaning you’ll still need a sanitizer like chlorine to keep the pool clean and clear. Luckily, E-Z Pool is compatible with chlorine, bromine, saltwater pools, UV, and ozone. Just know that you will still need a sanitizer to pair with E-Z Pool.

Whereas traditional chlorine-based maintenance programs typically involve multiple chemicals a week, E-Z Pool streamlines the process with a once-a-week application. The hassle of measuring chemicals is gone.

Based on the number of gallons your pool holds, you add 2 – 6 scoops to the water on the same day every week (pick your E-Z Pool day), and that’s it! E-Z Pool works even better when paired with a product called Revive Weekly, a clarifier and phosphate/metal remover that helps prevent scale buildup. This is especially beneficial for fiberglass pools, which require a scale sequestrant when calcium levels are above 120 PPM.

With all this being said, you may be thinking, “Wow, this sounds great. I guess I won’t have to test my water as often since the chemistry will be locked in.” I see where you’re coming from, but testing your water is the best way to ensure that E-Z Pool is actually doing its job.

Does E-Z Pool Replace Water Testing?

Great question! The answer is a resounding no. Although this product simplifies water chemistry maintenance, it is still recommended to test your water weekly to ensure proper sanitizer levels and balanced water chemistry.

For reference, balanced water chemistry goes as follows:

  • Chlorine/Bromine: 1 – 3 PPM (Free and total chlorine should be equal. TC > FC = combined chlorine AKA dead chlorine)
  • pH: 7.2 – 7.8 (7.2 – 7.4 in fiberglass pools)
  • Alkalinity: 80 – 120 PPM
  • Calcium Hardness: 175 – 350 PPM (for fiberglass pools on E-Z Pool, use a scale sequestrant like Revive Weekly to prevent scale on fiberglass surfaces as a result of high calcium)
  • Cyanuric Acid: 0 – 50 PPM
  • Salt levels: 2700 – 3400 PPM (exact range may vary depending on the brand of salt chlorine generator)

Is E-Z Pool Good for Inground Pools?

Inground pool owners who use E-Z Pool love it. Hearing testimony from customers raving about how much E-Z Pool simplified their pool maintenance is what convinced me to try it on my pool.

E-Z Pool works on all inground pool types, although fiberglass pools require a scale sequestrant to offset any potential scale resulting from the high calcium levels.

E-Z Pool works great for busy inground pool owners looking to streamline their maintenance. But remember, the product merely simplifies maintenance. It does not eliminate it.

Large pools or pools with heavy weekly swimmer loads may still need supplemental balancers, chlorine, etc.

Can You Use E-Z Pool in Above Ground Pools?

Yes. I have an above ground pool myself, and E-Z Pool works like a charm on it. Smaller pools, like many above ground pools, are susceptible to rapid swings in chemistry due to the lower water volume. E-Z Pool helps eliminate this.

What are the Pros of E-Z Pool?

Let’s talk about some of the biggest advantages of using this product.

Streamlined Maintenance

E-Z Pool is added to the pool water via a scoop included in the bucket. Based on the gallons of water, you add 2 – 6 scoops on the same day every week. This is much more manageable than manually adding pH up or down, alkalinity, and/or calcium every week.

Less Guesswork

Instead of guessing how much pH or alkalinity you need to add to your pool water, the weekly scoops give your pool exactly what it needs to stay balanced. This is great for new pool owners attempting to master their pool maintenance.

Crystal Clear Water

E-Z Pool owners consistently report that their water looks clearer than ever, thanks to E-Z Pool’s built-in clarifying agent. Pair it with Revive Weekly and your pool will sparkle like it has never sparkled before.

Reduced Chemical Storage

Clear your shelf space, folks. With E-Z Pool, you no longer need various bottles and bags of balancers, specialty chemicals, and more. You will still need chlorine or a sanitizer on hand, but a majority of the chemicals you need are built into the blend.

Simplifies Closing & Winterizing

E-Z Pool takes care of closing and wintering in one treatment. Simply add two and a half times your weekly E-Z dosage to the pool before closing and run your pump for at least thirty minutes before closing. E-Z Pool will take care of algae growth and contamination over the winter, making spring openings much easier. Thanks to E-Z Pool, my pool opens up crystal clear every year.

What are the Cons?

No product is perfect, this one included.

Some drawbacks you may find with this product include:

  • Higher upfront product cost
  • Still requires regular water testing
  • Will require supplemental balancers after rain
  • Doesn’t eliminate the need for a sanitizer such as chlorine

Is E-Z Pool Better Than Traditional Pool Chemicals?

The traditional method of balancing a pool manually has its benefits. For some pool owners, the ability to control every aspect of their pool’s water chemistry gives them peace of mind. Individual products give you the ability to fine-tune every individual chemical, including sanitizer levels, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and cyanuric acid (CYA).

E-z Pool, however, is all about convenience. For as many homeowners who don’t mind manually balancing their pool, just as many would rather eliminate as much maintenance and chemical spending as possible.

No system is better, per se. It all depends on your goals.

Conclusion

E-Z Pool is one of the most convenient ways to ensure consistent pool water balance year-round, while reducing the amount of maintenance and balancing needed for the pool. While it doesn’t eliminate the need for a sanitizer like chlorine or weekly water tests, E-Z Pool drastically reduces not just the amount of chemicals needed, but how often you need to add them.
