What Is A Pool Liner Replacement Going To Cost?

While shopping for a swimming pool, if you decide to go with a vinyl liner inground pool, you probably know by now that you will eventually have to replace a liner or two. I get tons of questions about liners, and the number 1 question asked is always about cost. It would be very easy for me to just say ehhhh all liner replacements range from $3,000.00 to around $5,000.00. I truly wanted to go above the typical answer to give you a better insight. In this article, we have a chart below that will go over the “base” of a vinyl liner replacement cost. I will also explain below in as best detail as posibble what factors will increase the price of the liners installations.

  • $3,800.00 – $4,000.00

What makes a pool liner replacement cost increase?

There are a multitude of things that make the cost of a liner replacement increase. I am going to name the most common below and why?

Free form / shaped pool

Typically a rectangular swimming pool is measured by getting the length and the width of the swimming pool. Then you would also measure floor depths, floor breaks and side walls. This is a pretty basic process and is reasonably easy to do for a pool profesional.

If you where to measure a free form pool, also known as a “shaped pool.” The measuring process that is involved is called “A:B Measuring” or “Point to Point” measuring. Measuring a pool that is a free form can take some skill, and it also takes some time. Typically the time it takes to measure a free form pool is about 2 – 4 hrs, you may also have to go back to confirm some dimensions after the rendering from manufacturing is completed. This is just to make sure the liner is made correctly. In most cases, it also takes a few extra installers to make a free form liner go in properly. Unfortunatley this does add to the bottom line sometimes $100.00 – $300.00 depening on how dificult the measuring and installation may be.

Custom inground pool steps

If you choose not to go with the standard plastic stair case with your vinyl liner pool. Then the next best and my persona favorite would be “liner over steel” staircase.  This is where the stairs are bolted into the steel walls and the liner is made to lay over the steel steps, giving you a vinyl finished stair case. Simply due to the fact that there is more liner material and custom cuts to make for the stairs. This does increase the bottom line as well from $300.00 – $500.00. Depending on how custom the stairs are.

Unusual Pool Depth

Most vinyl liner swimming pool depths are typically the same. Shallow ends tend to be around 40″ deep, while deep ends tend to be between 6′ – 8′ deep.  It is usually standard that a manufacturer charges more if the liner material is deeper than 42″ on the shallow end and deeper than 8′ on the deep end of the pool.  You could see an increase to the bottome line of up to $100.00 depending on the manufacturer.

So there you have it, that is the break down for what the average liner replacement could cost you. It was my intention to be a little bit more descriptive than normal I hope it has shed some light on the question for you!
