Do you own an inground swimming pool? If you clicked on this article, I am guessing yes. Owning an inground pool is great for making memories, relaxing, exercising, and just enjoying life. But with any luxury product comes some maintenance.

Is Pool Maintenance Worth It?
This is a great question. As previously stated, routine pool maintenance is not hard to complete. You just have to educate yourself on how to properly do everything. It just takes time. If you’re willing to put in the time and effort to learn how your pool works and how to keep it clean and clear, maintenance may not be worth it.
The most important aspect of pool maintenance is maintaining balanced water chemistry. Balanced water chemistry protects not only you and your swimmers, but the pool and equipment as well.
As a refresher, balanced pool water chemistry looks like:
- Chlorine/Bromine: 1 – 3 PPM
- pH: 7.2 – 7.8 (7.2 – 7.4 for fiberglass pools)
- Alkalinity: 80 – 120 PPM
- Calcium Hardness: 175 – 350 PPM
- Cyanuric Acid: 0 – 50 PPM
Keeping your pool water balanced is one of the biggest pros of hiring a pool company to maintain your pool. Once you get your pool balanced for the season, it should be easy to keep it maintained as long as you test your water at least once a week.
If your pool has an automatic cover on it and does not take in a lot of debris, you may not need weekly vacuuming. There are several factors.
Here are some questions to ask yourself that will help determine whether you may need pool maintenance:
- How often do/will I use my pool?
- Is my pool covered?
- Does/will my pool take on a lot of debris?
- How many swimmers will I have every week? (More swimmers means more chemistry adjustments.)
- Do I have the time to clean and balance it myself every week?
